Earliest musical memory?
I’d like to say it was something cool like Parliament Funkadelic, but it’s probably something like Sesame Street. I do have a distinct memory of Ringo Starr’s voice on Thomas The Tank Engine. But I don’t think that counts.
How long have you been playing your instrument?
I guess I got my first bass when I was about 10 or so but it wasn’t until I was 15 that I became really passionate about it.
Biggest musical influence or idol?
This is like asking a mother who her favorite child is! If I had to narrow it down to 3 because my life depended on it, I guess it would be Omar Rodriguez Lopez, James Brown and Thom Yorke.
Have you played or do you currently play with any other bands?
I used to play in a punk band in high school called Morning After Stories, I also played in a funky band called Knight at the Discotheque with Jos and I will be releasing more extremely tasty tunes soon with a band that will hopefully be going by the name ‘Robotopotimus’ (it may change though. hopefully not)
Most memorable gig playing with Dan?
The most memorable gig was probably the first EP launch at Northcote Social Club but we just had a gig last Tuesday where Dan dropped/threw his keyboard of the stage. That was also quite memorable.
Favourite hangover cure?
Bloody Mary, sometimes.
Favourite song to play live?
To perfectly honest I love a good jam. Anything that isn’t rehearsed is my favourite song to play.
Hardest song to play live?
Probably ‘Weekends’ because its got a lot of improvising and time changes. You have to be concentrating for the whole 15 mins, not looking at the girl behind the bar!
How did you come to be a part of Dan’s band?
Well the previous bass player asked me to fill in for her for two shows and I did the two shows and then another two, and another two and then I seemed as though I was in the band. Everything just seemed to work itself out.
Any funny band stories to share with us?
I saw Jos get pooped on by a bird before the show the other day. I’d never seen anyone curse so many times at anything before.
